RANCH RODEO EVENTS AND RULES

COW MILKING:

1.    A four (4) man team including a roper, milker and two (2) muggers. Only

roper will be horseback.

2.    Cattle will be at one end of the arena, constants start at opposite end and all contestants must remain behind starting line until judge calls for start. All teams will compete at the same time.

3.    Two minute time limit and the fastest time wins.

4.    Catch as catch can

5.    The muggers hold the cow with help from the roper, while the milker milks her into a standard 12 oz. longneck bottle. Anyone of the contestants may milk the cow. The milker may pass the bottle to another man to run to the judge. Runner must hand the bottle to the judge, and THE JUDGE WILL POUR THE MILK OUT. If the milk will not pour or if contestant pours, the team will receive a No-Time."

6.    Should use good, healthy, wet cows.

 

TEAM DOCTORING:

1.    Three (3) man team - Header, Heeler & Vet. All contestants may rope.

2.    A roping steer will be released from the roping chute. The header and heeler will start from respective boxes. Vet can be anywhere in the arena.

3.    Time will be flagged similar to a team roping run.

4.    All three (3) team members shall be horseback. Ropers may rope either end, head or heels. Catch as catch can.

5.     Ropers may dally or tie hard-n-fast.

6.    Animal must be standing when it is headed and/or heeled. Animal must be

headed first.

7.    When animal is caught, vet will place a mark between its’ eyes and raise his

hands, stopping time. Mark must be between its’ eyes or will result in no time.

8.   Two (2) minute time limit and the fastest time wins.

 

RANCH RELAY RACE:

1.    A four (4) man team.

2.    Two riders are stationed at one end of the arena behind a line while the other two are stationed at the opposite end. All contestants must start a foot with only the bridle on their horses. Remaining tack must be on the ground until needed.

3.    Upon the start signal, the first rider must pick up their tack, saddle their horse, mount and travel to the other line. Once the first rider crosses the opposite line the next rider on the team can begin to saddle their horse.

4.    If at the judges discretion, a contestant begins to saddle before their teammate has crossed the line the team will be disqualified.

5.    Assistance from team members while saddling and mounting is allowed.

6.    Altering tack, or removing items normally used in other events is not allowed. E.g. breast collars, back cinch, etc. If at the judges discretion altering or removing items occurs, team may be disqualified.

7.    The fastest team to have its last member cross the respective line first will be the winner as witnessed by the judge.

 

TEAM BRANDING:

1.    A four (4) man team, including a roper, two ground crew and brander.

2.    Pairs (cows and calves) will be in pen. Contestants will all be outside pen behind the line on the ground until judge signals to start.

3.    Upon start, roper must enter pen and rope a calf by both hind legs. A 5 second penalty will be added if calf is caught and drug in by only one leg.

4.    Roper must travel at a walk. 15 second penalty will be imposed if at the judges’ discretion the ropers’ horse moves out of a walk while in the pen of cattle.

5.     After catch is made, roper must drag the calf to the ground crew who must wait until calf crosses the line on the ground. At that time, ground crew must lay the calf on either side and after removing the rope hold the calf down.

6.    Brander must remain at the “pot” until the rope has been removed from the calf. At which point he/ she must take the marking iron to the calf, mark the calf, and return the iron to the pot. The mark can be placed on any part of the upward facing shoulder, rib or hip of the calf.  Time for the run will stop when the iron is back in the pot.

7.    No time limit and the fastest time wins.

 

TEAM SORTING/PENNING:

1.    Four (4) man team.

2.    A herd of numbered cattle will be held behind a line at one the end of the arena.

3.    As riders approach the line, the announcer will call a number which has been

drawn for them. The team must cross the line immediately after number has been called. If the team stops, as if looking for their cattle, the flagman will drop the flag, starting time before they cross the line. Time begins when first rider crosses the line. All of them may cross the line, and anyone may cut the cattle.

4.    Without loping into the herd, the team has to cut out cattle bearing the designated numbers.

5.    If a team sorts an incorrect animal or allows any unwanted cattle across the start line prior to the selected cattle crossing the start line it will result in a no time.

6.    After sorting the selected cattle from the herd, the selection must then be moved and contained in a pen at the opposite end of the arena.

7.    When all of the designated cattle are in the pen and the gate is closed the judge will drop the flag to stop the time.

8.    5 minute time limit and the fastest time wins.

9.    Any team may be disqualified for unnecessary roughness of the cattle at the

judge's discretion.

 

RANCH BRONC RIDING:

1.    "Ride as ride can" for 8 seconds. If no one rides for the required time, judges will time and score each attempt accordingly.

2.    One (1) person form each team must compete.

3.    A standard working saddle must be used.

4.    No PRCA rigging allowed. No hobbling of one or both stirrups.

5.    Horse has to be saddled as he would be for everyday use.

6.    A regular bucking horse halter with one rein must be used and shall be provided by the ranch team.

7.    Points will be awarded by the judges for the difficulty of the horse and also for the degree of aggressiveness, control, and exposure demonstrated by the rider.

8.    If any part of the rider is in contact with the animal at the whistle, it will be considered a qualified ride.
